Is built with the following suspension components. Mounted on each of the struts are rubber air springs that inflate to support the weight of the vehicle. The rubber air springs take the place of steel coil springs that most vehicle have.

The solenoid regulates the air pressure for each air spring. Solenoids start to leak as they wear out causing the vehicle to sag or to lean. This will cause the ride height sensor to send a signal to activate the compressor in an attempt to inflate the air suspension and level out the vehicle.

This excessive work load will eventually lead to total failure of the compressor. When the air suspension starts leaking, the compressor/pump starts working harder to try to keep the system inflated. By the time air suspension leaks down completely, sitting the vehicle on its tires, the compressor will either have failed or be well on its way to full failure. Once air suspension starts leaking, moisture will build-up throughout the air system. Moisture damages the air suspension from the inside. The dryer will need to be replaced in order to eliminate the moisture and prevent any further damage. Be sure to replace the O-rings when repairing any air suspension system.

The most common sign is a sudden drop of three to five inches of ride height on any of the wheels or different heights from one side to the other of the XJ8. You may walk out to your car after work and see the rear end or front end of the vehicle sagging.

Look for an illuminated suspension warning light or message in the instrument cluster. If your Jaguar XJ8 can not consistently reach and hold its appropriate ride height, you may be in need of repair or, worst case scenario, total replacement. The XJ8 might not be safe to take out on the road, as it may not handle even the smallest road bumps effectively.
